The Happening is happening.

This is my friend Kim Stevenson, isn’t she beautiful? I’ve written about Kim here lots. She was my first friend at Westside and she has been such an encouraging, steadfast friend over the six years that I’ve known her.

Kim is an amazing dancer. Creativity and energy and movement just flow out of her all the time. I can’t even count how many times we’ve been waiting in line or walking somewhere and she broke out into spontaneous dance moves, usually to the amusement of strangers all around her.

Last year I got to collaborate with her to write music for one of her pieces. It was inspiring to see her creative process up close and to experience first-hand the passion (or sparkle, as she would call it) that she puts into everything she does. The lady is talented and hardworking and the very best at what she does. But don’t just take my word for it…

This fall, Kim plans to open her own dance studio. It’s been a dream of hers ever since I’ve known her and it is so close to becoming a reality.

This Friday, The Happening is happening. It will be a night to dress up in your fanciest black & whites, come out and support The Happening, directed by Kimberly Stevenson. The dream is to purchase a new creative space to foster an excellence in creative exploration and dance education. It will be a space that supports and stirs future creative endeavors in this beautiful city of ours!

There will be Live Music by Miss You In Tuques, Jeremey Zimmerman, and Benjamin Mullen. Inside Scoop: I heard some of Jer’s rehearsal last week and it sounds great. You will dance/tap your toes/sing along, I promise. In addition to live music and dance there will be tapas, silent auction, and an epic dance party!! Seriously you guys, how can you miss this?

More details including how to purchase tickets at the Facebook event here!

And follow @happeningdance on twitter to keep up with Kim and all the exciting things going on with The Happening in the coming year.
