Tuesday Top Ten

One

What do you guys think of the new and improved sarahmiller.ca?! I am so happy with how it all turned out. I wanted to have a professional portfolio site to direct clients to, but still be able to keep up my blog and I think the new site design achieves that. Plus I am really excited about the branding! I hope this is the start of good things.

Two

I lost my keys on Sunday. This has honestly never happened to me before! I’ve had the same lethal looking starfish key chain (that my Mom gave me for protection) since I got my first car eight years ago. I was already in emotional meltdown mode when I discovered they were missing so it felt like The End of The World As We Know It. But there’s no point crying over lost keys, right? Right.

Jer gets +1000 friend points for driving me to pick up Roomie’s keys, then me driving home to pick up my spare car key then driving me back to Granville Island to pick up my car. I am giving it a couple more days to see if they turn up before I call to get another fob for my building (for NINETY DOLLARS, egads). Currently parking underground involves the process of getting out of my car, buzzing myself into the building and letting myself in via my phone. It’s annoying but it could be worse—I could have to park on the street for birds to poop all over my car.

Three

Someone told me the other day that you can’t cry in space. The internet confirmed to me that this is true. Reason #732 that I will never realize my childhood dream of becoming an astronaut.

Four

Thus far this summer—I use that term loosely— the weather in Vancouver has been absolutely terrible. Friday it poured all day. Nat talked me into going to the Night Market in Richmond by promising to be my sugar mama for the evening. It rained the entire time and we were soaked and freezing by the end. Despite the monsoon, we had great fun, especially towards the end when Dave got Bubble Tea, decided he didn’t like the pearls, and began spitting them at unsuspecting passersby.

Five

Westside had it’s annual volunteer appreciation BBQ at the Vancouver Canadians game last week. Confession: I don’t really get baseball. I mean, I understand the rules for the most part but I don’t get it’s appeal as a sport. It’s so slow and there doesn’t really seem to be too much athleticism involved. But man is it fun to go to baseball games and drink beer and eat pretzels and popcorn or what?

Six

The NHL draft came and went with very little fanfare on Friday. I watched the Oilers pick #1 and then shut it off. I’m glad they took Yakupov, but it’s hard to get excited about the number one pick three years in a row. I was over-the-moon when they took Taylor Hall in 2010, pumped about RNH in 2011 and this year I basically just shrugged my shoulders and was all, “Whatever.” As good as Yakupov is I don’t think there is any He-Will-Solve-All-Our-Problems! type expectations being placed on him. You can’t rebuild forever, you guys. At some point they are going to have to start winning or I will have to start cheering for the Canucks. JUST KIDDING HAHAHA AS IF!!!!

Seven

Les Miserables was the first musical I ever saw. My Mom took me when I was 11 or 12 and I remember begging her to buy me the piano book after. I took that songbook home and learned all of it over the next few weeks. I cannot wait to see this movie, even with Anne Hathaway in it. Although I really wish they had had an actual singer dub over the songs. If it’s not too good for Audrey Hepburn then it’s definitely not too good for Anne Hatheway.

Eight

This Relation(Ships) Chart is cute.

It reminds me of this song.

Nine

Let’s talk about the Biebs new album for a second. I…don’t love it. I feel like it would have been a lot better if he hadn’t just released his Christmas album because a few of the songs are basically twins. Also the Nicki Minaj special guest appearance is kind of disappointing. I’m sure tween girls will still love it, but I feel like it doesn’t have the universal appeal of his earlier stuff. You guys, have I outgrown the Biebs?!?!?!

Omg can hand hugs be a real thing please?

Ten

I write this to you from the bustling metropolis of Maple Ridge, where Ariana and I are having a best friend day. There are a lot of things that suck about looking for a job. Getting to spend a whole day with your best friend in the middle of the week is not one of them.
